Alumni Annual Fund Drive begins

In the next few days, most of you will receive your annual appeal for the Alumni Giving Drive . The goal of this drive is to provide more than $60,000 is donations to Loyola for the school’s unrestricted use.

Our graduates have always been a generous and giving group of men and women. But never in the 103-year history of the school has that been illustrated more than in the last few months.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, our alumni stepped forward and donated more than $50,000 to our school to assist in tuition for the many students who were displaced and came to Loyola. Thanks to those generous donations, these students – at one time, we had 130 from the New Orleans area -- were able to find a degree of stability in their lives. Many have returned to New Orleans , but dozens still remain with us.

This appeal is being made at this time of year because many would like to make a year-end gift for their 2005 tax purposes. However, it may be more convenient for you to make a gift/pledge in January. No matter which time works best, your participation is essential to the success of this drive. Typically, only 12-15 percent of our alumni contribute. That's too low and with your help, we can change that number dramatically.

When you receive the appeal, please return the enclosed contribution form at your earliest convenience. Or you might find it easier to make an online contribution at http://www.loyolaprep.org/php/donation.htm

There is no "Lunch with Loyola" for December ... the next event will be scheduled for January

St. Vincent's/Loyola Class of 1989
A group from the SVA-LCP class of 1989 got together in August. One friend realized that it was the 20th anniversary of our meeting freshman year at SVA -- what a scary thought to all of us!

We had fun catching up and sharing photos of our combined 17 children. We laughed about how our girls' night conversations had changed from boys to babies, from prom to preschool and from college to college funds.

Scenes from FAiTH 2005

On Dec. 5, Loyola College Prep held its annual FAiTH Day as students fed 600 families a Christmas meal. Since 1990, the name of the group that spearheads the undertaking is called FAiTH – Flyers Aiding the Hungry. The FaiTH officers converted the gym into Santa’s Food Giveaway, complete with Snoopy's Toy Shack. From 3-4:30 p.m., the baskets were given out to the needy. Once again, the Flyers live the school motto of "Becoming Men and Women for Others."

Siobhan Couturier '98 part of military history

A crew of six Airmen -- including 1st Lt. Siobhan Courtutier '98 -- at a forward deployed location climbed aboard a C-130 Hercules together recently for the first time in their careers. But something distinguished this mission from others they had flown --it was the first time an all-female C-130 crew flew a combat mission.
