Have you made your Alumni Annual Fund donation for 05-06?

To our St. John's, Jesuit and Loyola alumni, here's a number I'd like you to consider:

5.6%

That's the percentage of our alumni making a gift to the 2005-06 Alumni Annual Fund Drive (so far). To those who are in the 5.6 percent, we are extremely thankful of your generosity. Because of you, we have already reached about half of our financial goal for this year.

But the Alumni Annual Fund Drive is more than just "raising money for the school." It's more about the participation of our alumni in giving back to the school. Whether it's a gift of $20 or $2,000 ... it doesn't matter. What matters is that you believe in the 104-year-old mission of our school, which is to provide quality a Catholic education for the young men and women of Northwest Louisiana and produce "Men and Women for Others."

Can we double that above number? No doubt. Can we triple it? Certainly. But we can't do it without you. Part of what makes a Flyer graduate special is the pride he or she has in their school, whether they graduated last year or 50 years ago.

If you have not done so, please take a moment to fill our the pledge card you recently received. If you did not receive one or have misplaced it, please contact me by return email or by phone (318-226-6291) and I will send you one immediately.

Or you might find it easier to make an online contribution at http://www.loyolaprep.org/php/donation.htm

Please consider a donation for whatever amount you choose. By simply participating, you are enriching the lives of our students and the continuing a great alumni tradition.

We are counting on you.

annualreport.jpg (64229 bytes)2004-05 Annual Report published

Hopefully, you received the 2005-06 Annual Report recently in the mail. Our apologies for the tardiness of the publication -- Hurricane Katrina moved it to the back burner -- and we hope it did not cause any confusion.

The Annual Report (click image to enlarge) is for recognition of givers from July 1, 2004 to June 30, 2005. Gifts received after that period will be recognized in the 2006-07 Annual Report, which we hope to have published in early September.

If you noticed any corrections that need to be made regarding a listing in the Annual Report, please make us aware so that it can be corrected in future publications.

Sports Report: Girls making championship run

BASKETBALL: Senior Chassity Brown keeps making history. First, she became the school's alltime leading scorer when she passed Amie Marionneaux in late December. Then she became one of only a handful of players in Shreveport-Bossier history to score 2,000 points. The Tulane signee has also led the Flyers to their third straight district championship and a 32-5 overall record. The Flyers have won 30 games for third straight year (which has never been accomplished in any sport at Loyola) and are ranked No. 3 in the state. Loyola has beaten three of the Top 10 teams in Class 5A (West Monroe, Ruston, Airline). The Flyers have also won 29 straight district games and will close the regular season Friday night at home against Springhill (6 p.m.). Playoffs begin next week.

The boys are still alive for a playoff berth with one game to play, but they'll need a little help. The Flyers must beat district leader Springhill in the Flyer gym Friday (7:30) and hope Lakeside can beat Homer. If so, the Flyers would reach the playoffs as a wild card team. Freshman Charles Winborne leads the Flyers in scoring at 14.9 and seniors Connor Long and Hunt Palmer have moved up on the career scoring list. Long has 770 points and is ranked No. 21 and Palmer has 727 points and is at No. 23.
The Flyers are 11-21 overall.

SOCCER: After a remarkable week in which the boys team rallied to finish as district co-champions, both Flyer soccer teams will move into the playoffs Thursday. The boys, who finished with an 8-2 district record and shared the title with Neville and Parkway, will travel to Lafayette to play Northside at 6 p.m. The boys will go into the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from the district because of the tie-break procedure. Loyola is 9-4-1 overall and is led by Matthew Harrington, who has scored 13 goals this season. Goalkeeper Matt Brontoli leads the Flyer defense. The girls will also be making a road trip after reaching the playoffs as a wild card team. They finished in a tie for third with a 9-5 district record and will travel to Houma to play Vandebilt Catholic Thursday at 4 p.m.
Loyola is 12-9 overall. Jordan Smith leads all city scorers with 32 goals while Amanda Balistrella has 14 and Lauren Cheaney has 13.
