Cicero Bust stolen from pedestal

On Aug. 31, thieves stole the Frank Cicero Bust from its pedestal at Cicero Field. Speculation is that it was stolen either as a prank or for sale due to the rising cost of metal.

However, nothing has turned up in the month since the incident.

The Cicero Bust was dedicated when the baseball field opened on March 9, 2004. It was done by Jesuit alumni Eric Kaposta '68 of Houston. The bust weighs approximately 35 pounds.

The Flyer Alumni Association commissioned the bust and donations were received from former players and students of Coach Cicero.

BBQ set for Oct. 18

The 80th annual Booster Club Barbecue will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 18 at Riverview Hall (the "old" Shreveport Convention Center). Tickets have been mailed, but can also be purchased at the Loyola Alumni Office for $25. This is no longer a "stag" event; it is open to all alumni, parents and friends of Loyola.

This year's event will also feature a few special live auction items. Steaks will be served from 6-8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Alumni Scholarship program, which provides tuition assistance for children and grandchildren of alumni.

This event, which was begun by Tim Moran, is unlike any other in the area and brought together hundreds of alumni and friends of Loyola College Prep.

Flyers pick up first win; next two at home

Alexander Anglin (3) and Caleb Campbell (71) make a stop against Many.

The Loyola Flyers picked up their first win of the season by beating Many 28-16 Friday at Messmer Stadium.

Junior Morgan Johnston ran for 207 yards and scored three touchdowns and the Flyer defense came up with four turnovers against the Tigers.

Loyola led 21-0 at halftime and built the lead to 28-0 before Many scored two late touchdowns. Johnston's 207 yards is a career-high and the first time a Flyer running back has gone over 200 yards in four years.

The Flyers four-game home stand continues with games against the top two rushers in the state.

This week, the Flyers will play Booker T. Washington's Jeremy Johnston, who averages 231 yards per game for the Lions, who are 4-0 and ranked No. 7 in Class 3A.

Next week, Loyola will take on Class 4A Parkway (currently 4-0) and the Panthers' Jeremy Nolen, who is second in the state with 885 yards.

It’s another first for the Loyola Athletic Complex. The Flyer cross country team will play host to the first Snoopy Invitational Thursday at the Loyola Athletic Complex, beginning at 3:30 p.m. This will be the first meet of its kind to ever be held at the four-year old facility.
