Help us meet the goal of 1,000

Many thanks to those who have shown their support for a great start for the Alumni Annual Fund in becoming "One Thousand Flyers Strong." It's a simple premise -- the support of more than 1,000 alumni to Loyola College Prep.

If we are to reach our participation goal of 1,000 alumni -- which is more than double typical the amount in a typical year -- we need your participation. Your donation counts, whether it is for $10, $100 or $1,000. In terms of financial goals, we are already at 82 percent of our goal in just one month!

How does your class rank in terms of alumni donations for 2006-07? Click the link below for a class-by-class breakdown on the participation levels (through Jan. 16, 2007). [CLASS-BY-CLASS]

Our goal is to have 25 participants for each class in the decades of the 1960s, '70s, '80s and '90s. The goal for the other classes is for 10 participants in each. As you can see, no class has reached its goal ... yet. If you'd like to help make sure your class does reach its goal by making a few phone calls, contact the Development Office at (318) 226-6291.

If you have not done so, please return the pledge card you received in December at your earliest convenience. Or you might choose the convenience of our updated online donation page, for those who choose to make a credit card donation (this is a secure site). CLICK HERE FOR DONATION PAGE (You can make a pledge by clicking the "will send check" button.)

We can only become "One Thousand Flyers Strong" with your support!

Get your team together for Trivia Night

"Let's Make a Deal or No Deal" is the theme for the fifth annual Trivia Night at the Loyola gym on Saturday, February 3.

Get your classmates or family members together for a team and join us. Sponsored by the Loyola Parents Association, Trivia Night will give everyone an opportunity to win prizes and will be fun for all.

Teams are being formed by a table of 10 players and would be the perfect opportunity to see if your class really is the smartest to ever graduate from our school. However, your team can consist of whomever you think might give you the best chance to win -- friends, family or alumni.

TRIVIA NIGHT ENTRY FORM

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the trivia questions begin at 7. Categories include history, music, sports, entertainment -- and a few "special" categories. Choose your team captain and register today. You can click the link above to print out a registration form. For more information, call Laura Williamson at 746-8003.

Sports: Winborne sets school record

Sophomore Charles Winborne (pictured, right) set a school record for points in a game in the opening District 1-2A contest of the season as the Flyers beat 82-79 in overtime. Winborne scored 47 points, breaking the record of 43 by Reggie Cooksey, set in the 1994-95 season. Winborne, who scored 42 points in a game earlier this season, was 15 of 17 from the free throw line and made 14 of 24 shots from the field. Winborne is one of only five players in school history to score 40 points in a game, joining Cooksey, Billy Thomas (three times in 1993-94), George Restovich (in 1963) and Henry Rosenblath (1960). The boys basketball team is 14-15 overall and 1-1 in district play.
GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Flyers picked up their 20th win of the season by beating Homer 48-47 Tuesday night. Loyola, ranked No. 9 in the state in the latest Class 2A poll, has now won 20 games in 10 of the last 11 seasons. Senior Ashley Jackson is the leading scorer at 17.9 points per game.
BOYS SOCCER: The Flyers are 7-5-1 overall and 5-2 in the district, currently in third place.
GIRLS SOCCER: Loyola is tied for second in the district with a 702 and the Flyers are 8-8-1 overall. Junior Jordan Smith has 28 goals, tying her for the lead in Shreveport-Bossier.
FOOTBALL: Add another item to the list of accomplishments for Loyola’s Tripp George (pictured, left). Last year, he became the only Flyer football player to make the All-State team as a sophomore. Now, he becomes one of the few to be a two-time All-State selection when he was chosen the state’s sportswriters on the Class 2A team. George had 124 tackles in his junior season -- 53 more than anybody else on the team. He also had 11 tackles behind the line. Recognized for making the All-District first team were Morgan Brian, Aubry Carmody, Austin Whitten, Tim Doolin, Alexander Anglin, George and Morgan Johnston. Forty Flyers were awarded letters for the 2006 season and 24 were named Academic All-District.
