BBQ set for Wednesday

The 81st annual Booster Club Barbecue will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Riverview Hall (the "old" Shreveport Convention Center).

Tickets have been mailed, but can also be purchased at the Loyola Alumni Office for $25. This is no longer a "stag" event; it is open to all alumni, parents and friends of Loyola.

Steaks will be served from 6-8 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the Alumni Scholarship program, which provides tuition assistance for children and grandchildren of alumni.

This event, which was begun by Tim Moran, is unlike any other in the area and brought together hundreds of alumni and friends of Loyola College Prep.

 


Class of 1952 holds 55th Reunion

Former Flyer on 'Desperate Housewives'

Kevin Rahm, who attended Loyola from 1985-88, has recently been added to the cast of the ABC hit show "Desperate Housewives." Rahm plays Lee, the new neighbor on Wisteria Lane.

Rahm is best known for his role as Kyle McCarty on the CBS series Judging Amy and has also guest starred on Friends, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Jesse.

At Loyola, he was an award-winning member of the debate team and was a member of Loyola's nationally recognized cheerleading team. He left before his senior year to attend school in Texas and then served as a missionary all over the world between 1990 and 1992.

Returning to the United States, he studied pre-law at Brigham Young University, before changing his major to drama. In 1994, he was awarded the Irene Ryan Award for best college actor, and in 1996 dropped out of university to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.

Alumni Update

ROBERT M. (ROBIN) WADE '55 lives in Victor, Mont., and is retired. he moved there in 1992 after retiring from IBM in San Jose, Calif., in 1991. He married Ellen O'Neal in 1965 and they have two daughters, Laura Ellen (Novato, CA) and Kathleen Elizabeth (San Francisco).

TREY ROBERTS '95 and his wife Nancy, welcomed their first child, Laurel Elizabeth into the world on July 25th. He is working in Baton Rouge for Lamar Advertising and Nancy is enjoying being a mom.

TOM WYCHE '75 has moved to Westminster, Colo., and taken a job with Forest Oil Corporation as a Senior Geologist in Denver. 

CHRIS and STEPHANIE WALKER SOCKRIDER '88, '89 joyfully announce the birth of their fourth son James "Henry" Sockrider on May 14,
2007. He joins big brothers Benjamin (7) , Walker (4), and Grant (2) Sockrider. He was baptized by fellow classmate REV. KARL DAIGLE '89 on July 7, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

DANIELLE METOYER MITCHELL '94 and her husband Kirby welcomed their first child, Wesley Rakes Mitchell, on June 29, 2007.  They live in Greenville, S.C. where both are practicing attorneys.

DANA MANSUETO IDEN '96 and her husband Doug had their second child (Dean Phillip) on June 22, 2007. They have another son, Dylan Michael, born Dec 20, 2004, who loves being a big brother.

Memorials

ROBERT "BOB" FORDE '53 passed away on Aug. 22, 2007 in Nassau Bay, Texas. Mr. Forde, an outstanding baseball player for the Flyers, had a long career in geology and had a passion for archeology, photography, classical music, baseball, travel and community involvement. He spent 22 years as a volunteer for the Clear Creek Independent School District in Texas and was the organization's first "Citizen of the Year" and served on the Nassau Bay City Council.
