A.M.D.G.

Welcome to the Loyola College Prep website. We hope that a visit to the site will acquaint you with our school as we enter our 104th year of existence. While we cherish our roots in the tradition of St. John’s and Jesuit High School of Shreveport, we embrace the beginning of our second century and the bright future of Loyola College Prep. Our focus is to develop young people of conscience, character, and compassion.

We offer an education that is based on strong academics and on spiritual development of "men and women for others." We look forward to a personal visit with you at our campus, during our fall info socials, and at our Open House in January.

Loyola College Prep

Christian education is intended to make one's faith becoming living, conscious, and active through the light of instruction. The Catholic school is the unique setting within which this ideal can be realized in the lives of Catholic children and young people.

Loyola College Preparatory is a Catholic coeducational school whose faculty and administration are committed to academic excellence. Loyola is a part of a Christian community in which students are helped
and encouraged to apply self-discipline to develop their greatest potential. To insure the accomplishment of our purpose:

1. We believe in a college preparatory environment conducive to the education of the whole person. Concern is expressed for developing intellectual, spiritual, physical, emotional, cultural, and social aspects of each student.

2. We believe that in intellectual development individuals are served best when taught to think and reason for themselves. The student then should be allowed to make a choice and accept the responsibility for that choice.

3. We believe that each student must have opportunities to meet with success, develop an excitement for learning and a sense of accomplishment, thus helping him to develop a favorable self-concept.

4. We believe that the development of a student to become a "Person For Others" is based on Gospel values; it is an integral part of learning the responsibilities we owe all others, and a sense of justice and respect in our dealings with others.

5. We believe in a community where human knowledge and culture are enlightened by faith and shared among students, teachers, parents, and member of a larger community.

6. We believe that in close communications with God, we must provide a religious environment which will invite participation in worship.

7. We believe that each student should acquire knowledge, skills, habits which propagate Judeo-Christian and American principles, realizing that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand.

Our Mission is to become men and women of conscience, character, and compassion, continuing the Jesuit Catholic tradition of discipline, academic excellence, student involvement, and community service "for The Greater Glory of God" (AMDG).

Founder of the Jesuits

Feast day: July 31

St. Ignatius was born, probably in 1491, at Loyola, Spain. As the son of a nobleman, he became first a page and later a soldier. During the Siege of Pamplona, he was severely injured. During his convalescence, he underwent a spiritual rebirth and dedicated his life to becoming a soldier of the Catholic faith. A pilgrimage to the shrine of our Lady at Montserrat made him resolve to lead a life of penance. A year later at Manresa, he found himself suffering from many fears and doubts. Out of this experience, he wrote Spiritual Exercises and was restored to spiritual joy. After traveling and studying in different schools, he received his divinity degree in Paris at the age of 43. Ignatius fervently dedicated himself to a humble and chaste life and soon attracted a small band of followers who were impressed by his spirituality. These followers became known as The Society of Jesus, or Jesuits. These followers dedicated themselves not only to poverty and chastity, but also to obedience and to the salvation of souls around the world. There are 38 members of the Society of Jesus who have been declared Blessed and 38 who have been canonized as Saints.
