Recommendation Letters

Some colleges, universities, and scholarships require letters of recommendation on a student to be written by a teacher, counselor, and/or principal.  If this applies to you, certain procedures and considerations are followed:

In your Naviance account, invite the teachers from whom you need letters written on your behalf. Provide a detailed email message that will be followed up by a personal visit from you. Approach them at a convenient time for them (probably not in the hallway between classes, etc.) Explain clearly the purpose of the letter (admission into the school, scholarship, etc.) and provide them with all necessary information.

ALLOW THE TEACHERS 4 WEEKS TO COMPLETE THEIR LETTER, UPLOAD TO NAVIANCE (IF REQUIRED), OR TURN IN THE TYPED LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION TO THE COLLEGE ADVISOR.  They are busy people that need plenty of time to prepare a good letter on your behalf.  Pay attention to deadlines and PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

Ask the teacher(s) to submit their completed work to the college advisor by your designated deadline to be included in the aforementioned application packet.

If using the Common Application, the "invited" teacher(s) will upload their letter into Naviance and will complete the common application teacher recommendation provided in Naviance.
