Flyers named to post-season honors
The Loyola Flyers are well represented on the All-City and All-District teams for the 2010 baseball season.
Seniors Joe Rossi and Claude Lockhart were both first-team selections on The Times All-City team and sophomore Vaughn Shapen and senior Ben Adams were named as honorable mention.
Rossi had 47 RBI and seven home runs to go along with a .336 batting average. He was also 3-3 on the mound and pitched a complete game in the regional round win.
Lockhart batted .446 with five home runs and 28 RBI and had an onbase percentage of .596 and a slugging percentage of .747
On the All-District team, senior Dillon Berry was chosen as the Most Valuable Player, joining nine other teammates on the first team.
Berry was 7-4 on the mound with a 3.20 ERA and was the winning pitcher in the district championship game. At the plate, he hit .330 with six doubles and 20 RBI. His move to third base during the middle of the season was instrumental in solidifying the Flyer defense.
In addition to Berry, also chosen were Rossi, Lockhart, Adams, Shapen, Jack Turnage, Corey Mondello, David Holloway, Grady Flournoy and Chris Brian. |
