Flyers finish as state runnerup in 2010
Loyola's 2010 inline hockey team came home with a runner-up finish in the High School Inline Hockey State Championship in Madisonville.
The Flyers, the defending state champions, defeated St. Thomas More, 8-0, and Lafayette High, 6-3, before falling to Comeaux, 4-3, in the Tier I bracket finals.
"We were a lot younger," Flyers coach James Aitken said. "We were pretty lucky to get to where we were. We lost two seniors who played key roles and we lost another player, who would have been a senior. He started playing ice hockey in Dallas full-time. Just being so young, I think we were fortunate to get to where we were."
Aitken mentioned forwards Peyton Griffis and Payne Mitchell, defenseman Liam Doolin and the squad's lone senior, forward/defenseman Chris Brian, as being integral parts of the team's performance in south Louisiana.
