Flyers reach 3A playoffs in 2010
The Loyola softball team reached the playoffs in its first year in Class 3A.
The Flyers won 13 games during the year -- highlighted by winning the first Flyer Alumni Association Tournament -- and took a No. 24 seed from their regular season play. Loyola lost to No. 9 Westlake in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Six players were named to the All-District team: Tanner Roberts, Becca Glorioso, Kristen Berry, Crystal Cavallo, Maddie Russo and Gabrielle Cox.
Junior Tanner Roberts led the way by hitting .411. In addition to batting average, she led the team in hits (39) and runs (24) and only struck out twice in 95 at bats.
But the Flyer offense also had five .300 hitters -- Berry (.349), Russo (.348), Glorioso (.346), Cox (.305) and Cavallo (.301). Berry led the team with 16 RBI.
Berry and freshman Martha Williams did a solid job on the mound. Berry was 6-4 with 45 strikeouts and Williams had a .286 ERA with 91 strikeouts. |
