Flyers finish another championship season
The 2009 volleyball season has come to an end and once again the Loyola Flyers had an outstanding district season finishing undefeated in district play.
It's the seventh district title in the last eight years for Loyola. The Flyers, the No. 22 seed in the playoffs, lost in the playoff to John Curtis (River Ridge) and finished 11-13 overall and 6-0 in district play.
"We faced some tough competition in the tournaments we attended which helped prepare us for our district matches," Loyola coach Laura Woolbert said. "As a whole, the varsity team played together very well. There were a couple of injuries and illnesses during the season, but the girls were able to adjust to different positions on the court and they added a little extra hustle and heart to make up for missing teammates."
Woolbert added that plans are already in the works for a strong club volleyball season. "I've heard the girls talk about working together on their conditioning during the summer," she said. "We are having spring practice toward the end of April and look forward to getting back on the court and pulling out the tape measure so to speak so we can get an idea about where we stand going into the 2010 season.
The Flyers will graduate three seniors -- Adriana Liendo, Jessica LaBeau and Cristin Stephens. "I'm looking forward to seeing who is ready to meet the challenge of filling those spots," Woolbert said.
More information will follow in the spring concerning spring practice, summer workouts, and summer volleyball camps. |
