Assignment - Present a 3 1/2 to 6 minute speech. The basic purpose of the speech will be to persuade your audience to think, believe, or to do something, regarding your topic. You must prepare an outline of your speech to be turned in. Make sure that you tell the audience what you want them to believe, think, or do, make sure that the audience understands what position you are taking and what you believe.
Information to be turned in:
1 - Topic - State your topic (all topics must be appropriate for the class as a whole – your topic must be approved by the teacher). Pick a topic of interest to you and one which you believe your audience will be interested in. You must also state what position you will be taking regarding your topic.
2 - Sources - List the sources which you will be using for your speech. (Minimum of 3) Use the MLA method for citing your sources.
3 - Visual Aids – List and describe the visual aids you will be using. (Graph, picture, chart) You must have at least one visual aid.
4 - Write an outline for your speech. Follow the below format for your outline.
Purpose Sentence – What is the purpose of your speech?
I. Introduction
II. Body of your speech (main points)
A. Sub Point
B. Sub Point
III. Body of your speech (main points)
IV. Conclusion
5 - Audience – Include a poll of the class. You should ask each member of the class what their opinion is concerning your stand on your topic. Decide if they are Positive, Neutral, Disinterested, or Opposed. Make sure you ask each person what they think about the topic and if they agree or disagree with your opinion. Write down the names of each student in the class and write the classification next to their name.
