Five Flyers playing college baseball

It may not be consider a "record" but it is certainly a noteworthy accomplishment.

The Loyola baseball program is known for success -- two state championships and 19 district titles in its history -- but for the first time, the Flyers will have five former players in college baseball in the 2008-09 school year.

Third baseman Morgan Brian and pitcher Charlie Yokem have signed with the Centenary Gents, while catcher Fred Rossi (Spring Hill College), outfielder Cameron Adams (LeTourneau) and pitcher Matthew Marshall (Bossier Parish CC) will play at the NAIA or junior college level.

Brian, Yokem, Rossi and Adams are '08 graduates; Marshall is an '07 graduate.

"It's great that our program has produced this many players at the next level," Loyola coach Bobby Gilliam said. "It will also give our current and future players something to shoot for. They see what can be accomplished if they work hard and want to play beyond high school."

All five played American Legion baseball for the Shreveport White Sox, which was 24-6 and won the district tournament and played in the state tournament.
