LOYOLA 84, SPEARSVILLE 58: The Flyers opened the season on the road with a win over Spearsville. Charles Winborne had 32 points, Eric Gatlin had 17 and junior Ben Schonfarber had a career-high 11 points. LOYOLA 59, BENTON 41 (Benton Tournament): Nothing like spoiling things for the tournament host in the first round. The Flyers picked up the win as Charles Winborne had 23, Eric Gatlin had 10 and Garrett Fultz had nine. It's the first time the Flyers have ever won the opening game of the Benton Tournament. LOYOLA 59, COTTON VALLEY 56 (Benton Tournament): Charles Winborne's 27 points led the Flyers, who had no other player reach double figures. It's the first time the Flyers have opened a season 30 since 1996-97 SOUTHWOOD 72, LOYOLA 69 OT (Benton Tournament): The Flyers reached the finals over the Benton Tournament for the first time and staged a furious comeback that fell short in overtime. Trailing by 12 going into the fourth quarter, Loyola caught the Class 5A Cowboys, but Southwood managed to get the overtime win. Charles Winborne led the Flyers with 40 points and junior Matt Horneman had a career-high 10 points. It's the third 40-point game of Winborne's career. |
