CALVARY 59, LOYOLA 57: In the District 1-2A opener at Calvary,the Cavaliers used a 21-8 third-quarter advantage to beat the Flyers. Loyola led for most of the first half, but four 3-pointers in the third quarter by Calvary held the Cavs build an eight point lead. Charles Winborne had 22 points and Eric Gatlin added 16 for the Flyers. LOYOLA 66, QUEEN CITY, TX 55 (Waskom Tournament): Good free throw shooting certainly aided the Flyers as they set about the task in defending their championship in the opening game of the Waskom Tournament. Loyola hit 18 of 22 attempts from the line and got a career-high 16 points from Lavar Washington and 31 from Charles Winborne in picking up the victory. LOYOLA 43, ELYSIAN FIELDS 42 (Waskom Tournament): Mark Earnest had 12 points and Charles Winborne had 11 as the Flyers came away with the one-point victory in the semifinals. The Flyers trailed 18-14 at halftime, but used a 19-point third quarter to build the lead. It's the fewest points the Flyers have scored in a win since the 2004-05 season and the first time since last year's Waskom Tournament that Winborne wasn't the leading scorer for the Flyers. LOYOLA 55, HUGHES SPRINGS 40 (Waskom Tournament): The Flyers built an early lead and never trailed on the way to the win in the championship game. Charles Winborne had 18 and Lavar Washington had 12 to lead the Loyola scoring. Washington had nine of Loyola's 14 points in the first quarter. |
