The Loyola Flyers area headed back to the Class 2A softball playoffs. The Flyers qualified for one of 12 wild card berths and will be on the road to take on DeQuincy Tuesday at 5 p.m. Loyola qualified as the No. 29 seed and will meet the fourth-seeded Tigers of Calcasieu Parish. DeQuincy made it to the second round last year while the Flyers did not qualify for the post season. DeQuincy is 21-9 overall and was a state semifinalist in 2006. The Flyers closed out the regular season with a 5-2 win over Caddo Magnet in a non-district game Wednesday at St. Vincent's Field. Lynsey Smith pitched a three-hitter to improve her record to 9-13 for the year and had six strikeouts. Tanner Roberts had all three of Loyola's hits. The Flyers scored two runs in the first inning, but the Mustangs tied it in the fifth. The Flyers responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth to win. Tuesday, the Flyers closed the District 1-2A season with a 4-3 loss to Calvary. The Flyers had a 3-0 lead, but the Cavaliers scored four times in the bottom of the fourth to take a lead they never lost. Roberts had three hits in that game and Megan Mitton and Lauren Peters each had two. |
